Stories of Impact

She Did the Work. We Walked Beside Her.

These are the stories of women who came to The GreenHouse Affect in the middle of their hardest seasons — and chose to grow anyway. Their names have been changed to protect their privacy, but their courage is entirely their own.

Monique

From a shelter to a stable home — and a career she never thought possible.

Monique came to us eighteen months after leaving a domestic violence situation with her two children and nothing but a trash bag of belongings. She had been cycling through emergency shelters for nearly a year, working part-time and trying to hold everything together while her kids watched her struggle.

Through our housing program, she was connected with a vetted housing partner and moved into a stable apartment within six weeks. But the apartment was only the beginning. Her mentor — a woman who had navigated a similar path a decade earlier — helped her see that stability wasn't just a roof. It was a foundation.

Monique enrolled in a financial literacy workshop, completed a medical billing certification, and secured a full-time position with benefits within eight months of joining our program. Today, she volunteers as a peer support guide for women just entering the program.

"I didn't think I deserved more than survival. The GreenHouse Affect showed me I was wrong."
— Monique, program graduate

"I didn't even know half the resources existed. The GreenHouse Affect didn't just hand me a list — they walked me through every door. My daughter starts pre-K in the fall. I start my associate's degree the same week."

"The night I got the keys to my apartment, I sat on the floor with my kids and we just cried. Not sad tears. The kind that come when you finally exhale after holding your breath for too long."
